National Curriculum review launched, but details patchy

Thursday 20 January 2011

This morning the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove MP, took to the airwaves to announce the launch of a review of the National Curriculum.

Speaking on the Today programme, Mr Gove said that he wants to see a system which does not tell teachers ‘how to teach, it tells them what to teach.’

The BBC website is reporting that Gove has told his review panel that English, maths, science and PE must remain compulsory for children of all ages and that the panel will then decide on whether other subjects should also be required study.

It is not yet clear what the consultation process for the review will be – hopefully more details will become apparent after Gove’s press conference at a school in West London this morning.

We’ll keep you posted!
