In an article in today’s Guardian, Chris Waller from the Association for Citizenship Teaching and Andy Thornton, Chief Executive of the Citizenship Foundation, both argue that losing citizenship education from England’s National Curriculum would be a retrograde step that would negatively impact on young people’s political literacy.
Also speaking to the Guardian, David Blunkett said: ‘We could not have a civilised, well-informed and participatory democracy if it didn’t have young people who understood the world around them and their role as active citizens.’
