Students from Biddenham International School and Sports College decided to add to the Democratic Life campaign by giving their own testimonies about why they feel that citizenship education is essential to the curriculum. They wrote letters in support of keeping citizenship education in the curriculum and in their own way described how it is important to them.
One student from Biddenham wrote of their passion for citizenship education, after stating that it is their favourite subject they went on to state main focuses of citizenship education;
“Citizenship is an enjoyable yet educational subject and certainly deserves a place at the forefront of the curriculum. The subject teaches moral values and principles that are key to living in a thriving and sustainable multi-cultural society…Citizenship should definitely be part of the curriculum and is key to tackling many problems such as unemployment, high crime rates and even racism and sexism.”
Another student, also from Biddenham, wrote of their idea that they would be nowhere without their citizenship education and realized the practical importance of the lessons;
“Within the subject, we learn cross-curricular topics such as our human rights, politics, and basic social skills that are valued highly within the working society.”
