A group of PGCE students have established a campaign called Defenders of Citizenship Education (DOCE) . Aware that the subject is under review following the change in Government, the group are aiming to get as many supporters as possible to sign their petition which they plan to send to Michael Gove .
DOCE stated that “Citizenship Education can have an important impact in tackling disengagement, political disillusionment and voter apathy by engaging young people in relevant real life issues and showing how they can make a difference.”
It’s great to hear that other groups alongside Democratic Life are championing citizenship education – it really proves that supporters of citizenship are a force to be reckoned with!
